Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Project Worthmore! Please read through the below FAQs to understand more about volunteering with us.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I get started?
    • Orientation is the first step for volunteers! If you cannot attend one of the next two dates, please reach out to maria@projectworthmore.org to seek other options.
  • What is Beyond Babble?
    • Beyond Babble is a training led by our Director of Community Engagement, Jamie. It is required for any volunteer who wants to assist in the English aspects of our programming (classroom assistance, conversation partners, conversation groups, citizenship, etc.)
  • Can my child volunteer?
    • Ages 13-15 can volunteer with on-site parental supervision and a signed waiver
    • Ages 16-17 can volunteer without parental supervision but need a signed waiver
    • Ages 18+ can volunteer, need to fill out a background check  as legal adults
  • Can I sign my child up to volunteer?
    • If your child is 16 or older and seeking volunteer opportunities, it’s important that we hear from them directly. They are welcome to email with questions about volunteering.
    • If your child is 13-15, they will only be able to volunteer with you on site, so you are welcome to reach out on their behalf.
  • Why do I need a background check?
    • We require all incoming volunteers to fill out a background check as a general policy. We want to continue to create a safe space for our community, staff, and other volunteers!
  • Does the background check cost me money?
    • The background check does not cost you any money. However, Project Worthmore will be charged $30 for every background check submitted. So, if you’d like to offset the cost of the background check on our end, feel free to make a donation.
  • How do I sign up for shifts?
    • We utilize the platform Helping Habit. If you do not yet have an account, you can create a login to sign up! Within the volunteer page, you can find shifts listed under each header – ex: Food Share, Delaney Farm, etc.
  • Do you have any weekend or evening opportunities?
    • We do! Conversation partners, citizenship partners, farmers market, and occasional food delivery shifts are on the weekends. To learn more, please attend the next orientation. If you have specific questions, reach out to maria@projectworthmore.org.
  • Do you have internship opportunities?
    • We do not have general paid or unpaid internship opportunities – they only evolve if there’s a significant need and request from a staff member. If you have a service or volunteer requirement, we could track your total hours served, but do not generally offer specialized opportunities.
  • Could my volunteer hours count towards school requirements?
    • Yes, you can coordinate with Maria to get approval and any signatures/paperwork necessary.
  • Why can I only see shifts for this month?
    • Due to the constant changes in our needs, opportunities are updated by the month. If looking towards next month, check back the final week of the month to see if they have been posted!
  • Can I bring a group to volunteer?
    • Yes. For corporate group volunteer experiences, we have designed several options. Please see the possibilities here.
    • For non-profit, community, faith-based, school, or other groups please contact maria@projectworthmore.org as far in advance as possible to set up a group volunteering opportunity.
  • Do I need to know another language to volunteer?
    • Nope – you need no specific language knowledge beyond some English, though we welcome any that you bring us!
